Headaches, types and treatments

Headaches can be of various types we expose the main ones.

Headache

Cervicogenic / physical headache
Pain in the cervical and suboccipital region that may affect the head and behind the eyes.
Usually caused by old trauma to the cervical region. Can be triggered by physical exertion or simply by changes in weather and season.
X-rays and MRIs show signs of arthrotic degeneration with disc protrusions/ hernias.

Migraine

Headache of hormonal/biochemical nature.

May be associated with cycle, diet, food allergies/intolerances. In addition to chiropractic treatment often needs external guidance from a professional to correct diet and any allergies/intolerances.

Weekend headaches

Symptom of over-stress

The nervous system struggles to adapt to a relaxed condition because it is too used to working under pressure, so it contracts the muscles in the cervical region spasmodically causing typical weekend headaches.

Chiropractic directly intervenes in the causes of headaches.

Headaches are the most common disorder, affecting about 20 percent of the population.

Contrary to what you may think, when you have a headache, it is not the brain that feels pain, since it lacks pain nerve endings.

Instead, it is the cerebral and cranial arteries or certain cranial nerves that, if involved in the inflammatory process, subjected to mechanical pressure, or irritated, can originate this type of disorder.

Considering that the nervous system regulates the diameter of all blood vessels, chiropractic care assumes a key role in the prevention and treatment of this condition by providing valuable postural guidance and performing targeted manipulations of the spine.

Types of headaches

The most common headaches that affect the population, can be of various types:

  • Migraine headaches
  • Cevicogenic/muscle-tensive headaches
  • Cluster headaches
  • Weekend headaches
  • Stress headaches
  • Toxicity headaches
  • Digestive headaches
  • Visual headaches
  • Allergy headaches
  • Headaches from dental malocclusion

Chiropractic treatment for headaches

At Milan Chiropractic Studio Mazzini, chiropractors first intervene in search of the causes causing the pain. Once the origin of the headache is identified, treatment is subjective. Once the origin of the headache has been identified, the treatment is subjective.

The focus is on eliminating interference on muscular and organic structures in order to restore correct body functioning.

In cases of headaches of toxicological origin, thus related to food and/or drug intake, a specialist examination will be recommended to identify the type of intolerance and/or allergy.

Studies on headaches

The “International Headache Society” (HIS) has classified and defined the different forms of headache for research purposes by defining the main forms of headache:

  • migraine headache
  • tension headache
  • cervicogenic headache

The effectiveness of chiropractic care in treating these forms of headache is now officially proven by the results of controlled clinical trials.
