Our method against stress

The National Institute of Health (USA) has stated that 90% of all diseases result from the effects of overstress. Two billion people suffer from stress-related problems.

We live in a hyper-fast and overstimulating world. We are subjected to all forms of stress but often do not realize how dangerous it can be to our health. Stress can quickly generate nervous system dysfunction and consequently cause disorders in the muscles, bones and joints related to it. Our treatments focus on correcting and preventing these disorders, restoring the optimal state of health.

Any kind of stress is ultimately mental stress. Physical stresses (trauma or postural microtrauma), biochemical stresses (what we eat, how much we drink), emotional stresses from social or family relationships, economic stresses, work stresses, but also environmental stresses (such as electromagnetic waves) affect our nervous system making us live as if we are always in danger.

The brain sends the alarm signal to the adrenal glands, which immediately produce adrenaline, which is used to stimulate all our senses and make our muscles contract so we can be ready to run or fight if necessary. If the alarm does not go off, the adrenal glands also begin to produce another hormone called cortisol, which has devastating side effects on our bodies.

It interferes with the activities of neurotransmitters, prevents normal memory functions, decreases bone density (osteoporosis), increases blood pressure, inhibits the immune system, causes a loss of muscles a sign of physiological aging of human beings), causes insulin resistance (diabetes), causes increased levels of body fat, promotes water retention and consequently creates subcutaneous swelling, moreover recent scientific research has shown that excessive cortisol levels in the body prevent the formation of new neurons, thus promoting the onset of the most dangerous neurological diseases of our century such as senile dementia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

These two hormones, adrenaline and cortisol activate cholesterol production.

Stressful situations create a demand for more energy. Cortisol produces more sugars to energize the body, which if not used turn into fatty acids and cholesterol. In addition, stress drives people to induced needs such as smoking, alcohol, fatty and sugary foods that contribute to raising cholesterol.

High cholesterol levels can lead to blood circulation problems and heart problems.

What are the symptoms of stress

The symptoms of stress can be many and manifest as various health complaints and problems.

Symptoms can be physical, cognitive and/or behavioral symptoms, and the main ones include:

  • frequent feeling of general fatigue
  • sleep disturbances
  • difficulty in concentration
  • palpitations, tachycardia
  • difficulty falling asleep
  • muscle aches
  • stomach ulcer
  • diarrhea, stomach cramps
  • thyroid malfunction
  • feeling of boredom towards any situation
  • change of voice
  • mental confusion
  • irritability and lowering of immune defenses
  • Stress, overweight, chronic fatigue and insomnia
  • colitis

Stress, overweight, chronic fatigue and insomnia

People who constantly live under the effects of overstress have created a vicious cycle from which the body can no longer escape. In technical terms they suffer from “sympathetic survival syndrome “as Drs. Bob Hoffman and Patrick Porter argue in their latest book “Your flourishing brain.”

Sympathetic syndrome is the most dangerous neurological disease of the 21st century that results from an imbalance in the autonomic nervous system.

Always feeling tired especially in the morning as soon as you wake up, always feeling bloated, feeling the need to overeat or eat very sugary foods are often obvious signs of this syndrome that needs to be properly addressed to live a healthier life and prevent neurological diseases.

In many cases, our anti-stress method helps to improve insomnia. People who embark on a course with us feel more relaxed, sleep longer, and wake up more rested and more serene. This state of well-being makes it possible to reduce and in some cases eliminate altogether the intake of medications used for sleep.

It also often happens to those who are overweight and undergo chiropractic treatment for other symptoms (back pain, herniated discs, to cervicalgia, headaches, chronic fatigue, etc.), that they lose weight consistently, because chiropractic helps the body to rebalance itself and better withstand the effects of stress.

Less stress thanks to chiropractic care

Our stress-relieving treatment method

The chiropractors in our clinic are all specialists in functional neurology. Our method is based on the fact that the brain is neuroplastic and changes its neural map depending on the stimuli it receives.

Our anti-stress chiropractic interventions are mainly based in balancing the functioning of the nervous system, through balancing the cerebral hemispheres, thus promoting better posture and static and dynamic balance that translates into better energy output.

The treatments are gentle and safe and are carried out by experienced chiropractors.

First of all, we know that female and male brains are different structurally and biochemically (men have a larger amygdala and produce serotonin more rapidly).

Men and women respond differently to acute stress: women activate the left hemisphere amygdala and remember emotional details, men use the right amygdala and grasp the essentials. For this reason, treatments are specific and individual, and the techniques used accordingly differ from person to person.

From the chiropractic perspective, clinical experience leads us to hypothesize that a trauma experienced in the past is remembered differently by men and women.

Men get over it more easily while women whenever they remember or come into contact with any of the emotional details related to the trauma, they have suffered enter defensive physiology by closing in a “curl,” posturally speaking.

This attitude causes a dura mater tension that we find active in most people during the first chiropractic consultation and that we must release before starting any further treatment.

The perception of stress

Men's and women's perception of stress

WOMAN

The female brain remembers every emotional detail in addition to trauma.

MAN

The male brain remembers the event itself and immediately after the trauma activates serotonin production to forget the trauma as soon as possible.

In addition, most people have vertebral subluxations in the cervical region, often caused by old trauma in the past, particularly on the high cervical and middle cervical involving the vagus nerve and phrenic nerve. The vagus nerve is a cranial nerve that gives innervation to all internal organs and is often involved in an acute vaso-vagal reaction caused by stressful episodes.

The phrenic nerve, on the other hand, gives innervation to the diaphragm, the most important muscle in breathing: treatment of this cervical area is essential to improve respiratory quality and increase oxygen supply throughout the body.

Another highly affected area is the lumbosacral and sacroiliac area, which involves the nerves of the parasympathetic autonomic nervous system of the sacral plexus, which innervate the intestines and reproductive system.

Other areas of the spine that should always be considered are the middle dorsal area connected to the heart, lungs and stomach and the dorsolumbar region connected to the adrenal glands.

Useful tips to combat the effects of stress

“We are the result of what we do repeatedly; excellence is not an event in itself but is a habit.”
Aristotle

To combat the effects of stress, it is necessary to change lifestyle without being too drastic.

We are what we eat, so start buying healthy foods and get used to eating right. You can treat yourself to a glass of red wine and a dark chocolate as a reward even every night.

  • Drink more water, the basic rule is one litre per 25 kg of weight per day.
  • Do regular light physical activity such as a brisk walk every day.
  • Rest after exertion and make sure you get at least seven hours of sleep per night.
  • Listen to relaxing music and start meditating or praying.
  • Start chiropractic treatments because they will help balance the nervous system using natural techniques and allow the brain to cope better with stress.
  • Have a regular relaxing massage every week.
  • Keep company with fun people who make you laugh.

Charles Darwin argued that “It is neither the strongest nor the smartest who survive, but it is the being who adapts best to change”, in our days we cannot exempt ourselves from being affected by stress, but we must take action to better endure its side effects and thus improve our lives. Health is the most valuable asset we have; it is not just the absence of pain or disease but is complete mental and social well-being.
